Fats are broken into different groups based on the number of carbons they have, short-chain (<6), medium-chain (6-12) and long-chain (13-21). Now Medium-Chain-Triglycerides (MCT) AKA Medium Chain Fatty Acids (MCFA) are different from the others in that they are digested very easily, can have a positive effect on your metabolism (are thermogenic), and are readily used for energy as opposed to being stored as fat. Try incorporating them into your diet! One easy way, made popular by Bulletproof Coffee, is to add a little bit of MCT oil, butter, or coconut oil into your cup of coffee.
Where are these MCFAs found?
